“There is no relation between science and justice”: Geographies of glacier harms in the context of global extractivism in Chile

Funded by the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Environmental Intelligence, University of Exeter (2021-2025).

My PhD integrates social and physical science methods to analyse glacier protection, water access and mining risks, in a justice-oriented way. In this research I ask:

  • How does enacting glaciers as a ‘resource’ limit their protection?

  • How do our expectations for and the practices of law influence glacier, water, and mining (in)justices?

  • How can remote sensing be used in a participatory way to address mining risks and glacial water scarcity?
